The Mac Millan couture experience is so much more than simply trying on dresses in a shop. We offer a tailor-made experience, taking time to understand your personality, taste, style and budget before helping you create the perfect look. Using her extensive expertise, Jane will guide you through the process, making suggestions and recommendations. Every clients' journey is unique, but to give you an idea of what to expect, here are the key stages of our bespoke experience.
The concept of your dress or outfit will be worked out during your first appointment.
At your first appointment, We’ll talk through your ideas and draw inspiration to find the exact mood, elements, textures and colours that will make up your design. I encourage you also to send me any images of features that you’d like to incorporate, so I can fully understand your vision.
Following this, we’ll show you a selection of fabrics and help you select the ones that are right for your chosen style. Jane will take time to understand your personality and help you explore all choices before sketching your design. With years of expert design knowledge and unrivalled attention to detail, Jane can turn even the most unusual ideas into reality.
The final sketch of the design will be sent to you and once you are entirely satisfied, we can get your measurements and proceed with the production of your dress.
Using your measurements, we’ll create personalised patterns for your design and sew a toile (prototype). The toile is made of a cotton or substitute fabric that represents your basic silhouette. At your toile fitting, we ensure a perfect fit and make any necessary tweaks. This is also a chance for you to further discuss the design with Jane and make any necessary design changes.
If you do make significant adjustments at this stage, we may ask you to attend a second toile fitting before cutting into the actual fabric.
After finalising the toile, we create your dress from the actual fabric and invite you in for another fitting.
On your second fitting, the dress will be half-complete in the actual fabric. We only add any details, trims, lace or embellishments once we’re happy with the fit, so this final stage is where you see all the finishing touches come together.
This is where we ensure the fabrics are draping correctly and fitting you perfectly in all the right places before making final adjustments.
This is a crucial stage therefore for this fitting we recommend that you wear the underwear you’re planning to wear on the day because this will affect the fit and comfort. We also recommend that you bring shoes with the same size heel to make sure your dress is the right length.
After this fitting your bespoke dress will be finished to the most exacting standards.
On your third and final fitting, your one of a kind bespoke dress is complete and all that is left to do is to make sure that you are completely happy with it.
